Cali gasped, a feeling of unreality settling over her like a wet blanket.

As the carriage which carried them out of Arcaena to the dense, jungle-like forest to the north turned a bend, Cali saw a massive, impossibly blue lake. A faint light shimmered up from the water as if light itself floated in its depths. But what was more incredible than the lake was high above the lake sat an island.

As they stepped out of the carriage, the dreamlike feeling Cali felt intensified. Unable to look away, she stood in disbelief; she hadn’t imagined it. There, floating in the sky above the lake was a mass of land, waterfalls of crystal clear water pouring into the lake below. But the crashing of water Cali expected to hear was absent, instead, an unusual tinkling sound came from the waterfall.

The lake was surrounded by a forest so thick that Cali couldn’t see beyond the tree line near the water’s edge. And on the island sat a huge temple-like building, with several towers, and what looked like a courtyard, but she couldn’t tell from this distance below.

The stone of the building wasn’t gray, it was a pale, almost blond shade of white. The windows reflecting the color of the sky surrounding it.

Realizing she had been standing stock still with her mouth hanging open, Cali clamped her mouth shut, trying not to stare.

Soliana laughed, “child, do not worry, everyone has that reaction the first time.”

They walked onto a large, flat stone on the edge of the lake, a circular pattern similar to the one in the Tower engraved into the stone itself. With a small nod from Midge, she stepped into the circle and instantly found herself standing in a brilliantly green garden. The courtyard of the Temple of Skye.
